ARCANUM – The Covington Lady Buccs put together an impressive showing in the opening round of the sectional tournament at Arcanum with a three-set victory over Mississinawa Valley.

Things started off back-and-forth in the opening set as Mississinawa Valley was clinging to a 17-16 lead. The Lady Buccs went on a 6-0 run with several huge kills by Addie Ventura to spark the momentum. It led to a 25-19 victory for the Lady Buccs.

The momentum carried on throughout the final two sets as the Lady Buccs won by the scores of 25-18 and 25-17. Mississinawa Valley continued to play hard, but the Lady Buccs had too much firepower. A huge difference in the match was the serving by Covington, who tallied 14 aces in the contest.

Covington entered the tournament seeded tenth. Even though Mississinawa Valley entered the contest as the higher seed and had an impressive record, the Buccs proved that playing a demanding TRC schedule and a very tough non-league schedule would prepare a quality team for a tournament run.

The Lady Buccs hope that run will continue in their next match against the #4 seed, Newton. Game time is 5:30pm at Arcanum on Wednesday.

Covington is now 12-11 overall.
