JANUARY 28, 2023 The Covington Buccaneers ended a four-game skid with a dominating 73-43 victory over Tri-County North on Saturday at Covington High School.
NOVEMBER 25, 2022 Being inducted into the Covington Athletic Hall of Fame is a prestigious honor and three individuals, plus the 1986 wrestling team were blessed to experience that honor during the 40th annual induction ceremony on Friday at Covington High School. The three individual former athletes who were inducted were 2006 graduate Darin Rhoades, 2013 graduate Casey Yingst-Hernandez and 2015 graduate Ben Miller. All three compiled amazing careers at Covington and left legacies of greatness for future generations to follow. The 1986 wrestling team consisted of some of the best wrestlers in the history of the program and put together one of the best seasons in Buccaneer history.
JANUARY 26, 2023 Some nights shots won’t fall like you want, but good teams find a way to win by playing solid defense. That’s what Covington did on Thursday night in a 41-28 victory over Riverside in the final home game of the season.
JANUARY 24, 2023 There are five games left in the regular season for Covington and hopefully the Buccaneers can use Tuesday’s overall team effort they put forth against Northridge as a springboard for success heading into the tournament. Even though Covington came up short 66-61, it was the best performance of the season for the Buccaneers.
JANUARY 21, 2023 The Covington Lady Buccs celebrated “Senior Night” on Saturday by honoring their two seniors Erika Gostomsky and Meg Rogers with a convincing 44-17 victory over Lehman Catholic.
JANUARY 20, 2023 When a team gives you an opportunity to shoot 31 free throws, the chance of winning is as good as it gets. Unfortunately for the Covington Buccaneers, they made just 18 of the 31 free throw attempts, which ultimately led to a 50-43 loss to Bethel.
The 2022-23 Covington Buccaneers have the potential for another great season as the Buccs have a large number of participants and four state qualifiers – three as state placers.
The Covington Lady Buccs volleyball team has high aspirations for 2022 as six key players return from last year’s team that finished with a 17-7 record and was runner-up in the TRC.
The Buccaneers return a talented group of runners, as well as some strong newcomers. The Buccs have five of their top seven runners returning from last year’s league championship team and they have really picked it up a notch this summer. Covington is really excited to see what we can do this season.
The Lady Buccs will be led by last year’s TRC runner of the year and state qualifier sophomore Elyza Long. Also returning for the Lady Buccs is All-league runner junior Johanna Welborn, Seniors Teylor Meyer, Summer Anderson, Eve Welborn, and Junior Ella White. New to the team this year and looking to make an immediate impact are freshmen Delaney Murphy, Kassidy Turner, Bella Welch and sophomore Kylie Brown.
The Covington Buccaneers have high aspirations in 2022 due to the talent returning from a team that qualified for districts with a 4th place finish at sectionals and finished 3rd in the league with a record of 10-4.
Playing with dignity and respecting the game are standards Tobias has established in other sports he has coached for over thirty years at Covington, football and track. This has led to huge amount of success in those sports and hopefully it will translate into success for the Lady Buccs golf program.
The Covington Buccaneers field a youthful roster in 2022, but there is plenty of excitement from a group of kids who look to build on the core values established a year ago.
