COVINGTON – It was a tight game until the sixth inning when Lehman pulled away from a 1-1 tie to knock off the Covington Buccaneers 8-1 in a critical league matchup.

What hurt Covington was its inability to take advantage of seven walks on the night as the Buccaneers only managed to record one hit throughout the entire game. The one hit came in the third inning when Tyler Jay singled to drive in Michael Hagan for the only run the Buccs could put on the board.

Still, Covington held a 1-0 lead until Lehman tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth.

Tyler Jay pitched very well through five innings, but was forced to turn the ball over to Ashton Skaggs in the sixth due to the pitch count. Lehman was able to take advantage of the pitching change by plating five runs in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Covington only allowed five hits in the contest, but two errors gave the Cavaliers extra at bats.

The loss drops Covington’s record to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the TRC. The Buccs host Riverside on Tuesday.
