SIDNEY – The Covington Lady Buccs put themselves right back into contention in the TRC with a thrilling four-set victory over state ranked Lehman Catholic on Thursday, 16-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21.

The victory moves the Lady Buccs’ league record to 9-3 with Lehman and Miami East still clinging on to the top spot with a 10-2 league records. Covington still has two league games remaining against Riverside and Miami East.

The Lady Buccs appear to be peaking at the right time by playing well in the final two weeks of the regular season. Much of the improvement is due to the stiff non-league competition Covington plays throughout the season.

Earlier in the year the Lady Buccs won the first two sets against Lehman, but dropped the final three sets in a stunning defeat on their home floor.

On Thursday, Covington had a sluggish start by dropping the opening set 16-25. The Lady Buccs showed grit by battling back to win the next three sets, all of which were very close – 25-21, 25-23, 25-21.

Covington’s overall record is now 9-10, which doesn’t reflect the overall talent the Lady Buccs have because of the stiff competition they play.

In junior varsity action, the Lady Buccs fell in three sets 25-22, 22-25, 18-25. They are now 11-5 (9-3).

The Lady Buccs will play at Bradford on Monday and then travel to Riverside on Tuesday.
