COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs recorded a dominating 24-0 win over Bradford in the opening round of the sectional tournament on Tuesday.

Things started off fast for Covington as it scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first and then followed with 13 more runs in the bottom of the third. Despite holding up runners from stealing bases, Covington scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth.

Defensively, the Lady Buccs played nearly flawless as they allowed just three hits and didn’t commit a single error. Karyanne Turner threw all five innings and kept the Bradford hitters off balance throughout much of the game. Turner struck out just one batter, but her accuracy led to solid fielding opportunities for the defense behind her. Turner also didn’t allow any walks.

Covington pounded out 22 hits in the contest as nine of the 12 batters connected on hits. Kamryn Barnes had a huge game by going 4-for-5 with five RBI and a three-run home run in the third inning.

Ava Hartwig went 4-for-4 with a double and drove in four runs, while Taylor Foutz went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Jayda McClure, Karyanne Turner, Emalyn Johnson, Emma Ouellette and Stevi Newhouse all connected on two hits each, while Kylie Palsgrove had a hit.

Covington improves its record to 19-7 on the season and hosts Houston on Thursday in the second round of the sectional tournament. The game is slated to start at 5:00pm
