TROY – Covington rebounded from an unfortunate loss to Minster by putting together a 24-3 victory over Troy Christian on Tuesday to improve to 8-3 overall and 6-0 in the TRC.

The offensive tone fo the game was set in the top of the first as Covington scored nine runs. The big hit came on a three-run home run by freshman Emalyn Johnson, who had another great game by going 3-for-3 at the plate and driving in six runs.

The Lady Buccs didn’t play well defensively in the bottom of the first as two errors led to a three-run inning for Troy Christian.

Refocused, Covington dominated the rest of the game by scoring three runs in the second, one in the third, three more in the fourth and the eight in the fifth to finish with a 24-3 victory.

Senior Karyanne Turner went the distance in the circle to pick up the win. Her leadership was critical after a rough opening inning. Turner only allowed five hits and walked just two batters.

Covington tallied 20 hits and all but two players on the roster connected on at least one hit.

Seven triples were recorded by the Lady Buccs – Karyanne Turner, Elizabeth Coblentz, Kamryn Barnes, Emma Ouellette, Jayda McClure, Taylor Foutz and Ava Hartwig. Foutz and Hartwig also connected on doubles.

The only unfortunate stat for Covington offensively was the 11 strikeouts as a team.
