COVINGTON – Covington committed four errors that had significant impacts in a 7-3 loss to Bethel on Thursday.

Bethel started off with a run in top of the first. The Bees singled to right and then a fielding error allowed the first run to make the score 1-0.

Covington responded in the bottom of the second by plating two runs and a two-run double by Grant Blore that scored Brairen Denson and Tanner Palsgrove.

After a scoreless second inning, Bethel took advantage of two errors by Covington score three runs in the top of the third for a 4-2 lead. The Bees started off with a single to right and then a fielding error by the Buccs led to the first run of the inning. The next Bethel batter reached on an error, then a walk, and then a two run single put Bethel ahead 4-2.

Covington cut the deficit to 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Ashton Skaggs that scored Brairen Denson.

That was the final run the Buccs could put on the board as Bethel held Covington scoreless over the final four innings

The Bees were able to give themselves more cushion by scoring two runs in the fourth on a fielder’s choice and then a wild pitch. Bethel put one final run on the board in the sixth on an RBI single.

Covington tallied 8 hits and Bethel had 9. The difference was the four unearned runs surrendered by Covington throughout the game.

Brairen Denson, Carter Owens and Ashton Skaggs all had two hits, while Grant Blore and Michael Hagan recorded a hit a piece.

Covington falls to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the TRC, while Bethel improves to 7-3 on the season and 5-0 in the league.
