SIDNEY – The opening weekend of the season was a huge success for the Covington Lady Buccs as they followed an impressive win over Houston on Friday with a dominating 64-40 victory at Fairlawn on Saturday.

And what made the victory over Fairlawn so gratifying is eight players contributed with points – three finishing in double figures. Carlie Besecker and Maggie Anderson led Covington with 17 points each, while freshman Avery Koffer tallied 11 points for the Lady Buccs.

Covington jumped out to a 16-9 lead after one as Maggie Anderson and Carlie Besecker combined for 14 points in the frame. The other two points came on a bucket by Avery Koffer.

Five Lady Buccs scored points in the second period with Maggie Anderson tallying seven points and Avery Koffer scored six. Erika Gostomsky, Meg Rogers and Gabrielle Hartwig also scored to help Covington push its lead to 35-14 at the break.

With a comfortable lead, the Lady Buccs used its depth in the second half, but Covington was able to outscore Fairlawn 29-26 over the remainder of the contest.

With the win, Covington improves to 2-0 on the young season and will travel to Riverside on Tuesday to open up TRC play.
