COVINGTON – Things couldn’t have materialized any better for the Covington Lady Buccs on Friday as senior Erika Gostomsky threw a no-hitter in a 13-0 run rule victory over Lehman Catholic where the five seniors were honored on Senior Night.

What made the evening special is the fact that the game was able to be played despite the rain that fell throughout the majority of the night. Covington’s softball field held up and this led to a large crowd of supporters on hand to honor the five seniors – Erika Gostomsky, Mara Newhouse, Reagan Lemp, Nigella Reck and Meg Rogers.

Gostomsky threw all five innings and was so close to pitching a perfect game as the only base runner for Lehman came on a walk in the third inning by Emilee VanSkiver. Gostomsky struck out eight batters and the defense behind her didn’t commit a single error in the contest.

The Lady Buccs jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning of play and then scored a run in the second to go up 6-0 as Lehman made some great defensive plays to prevent further damage.

Covington plated five runs in the third inning, all coming with two outs. The big hits came on triples by Meg Rogers and Karyanne Turner, which led to an 11-0 lead for the Lady Buccs.

The Lady Buccs capped a great performance with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a home run by Nigella Reck, which was her fourteenth home run on the season.

Covington racked up 12 hits in the game with Nigella Reck leading the team by going 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in. Meg Rogers had two hits with a triple and a double, while Erika Gostomsky helped herself out at the plate by driving in three runs on two hits.

Reaghan Lemp had two hits and drove in two runs, while Maggie Anderson connected on a two-run double. Also recording hits for Covington were Mara Newhouse and Karyanne Turner, who connected on a triple. Kamryn Barnes drove in a run as well on a sacrifice fly.

Covington improves its record to 20-3 overall and 11-1 in the TRC with two league games left against Riverside and Miami East.
