TROY – Several Buccaneer athletes advanced to the regional track meet with hopes of qualifying for state and two runners reached their goals by advancing with top four finishes – juniors Asher Long and Carlie Besecker.

Asher Long advanced in the 3200 by taking second with a time of 9:31.84. It was an impressive performance by Long considering he had to overcome congestion issues over the past week. This will be Long’s first trip to state in track, but he has previous experience at the elite level as he qualified for state in cross country in his sophomore and junior seasons.

Carlie Besecker advanced to state by taking fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.74. She advanced to the regional final by taking second in her heat in the prelims with a time of 1:00.37.

Sophomores Elyza Long and Hannah Alexander came up just short of qualifying for state in their respective events. Long placed fifth in the 3200 with the time of 11:45.91, while Alexander finished sixth in the discus with a toss of 105-8.

In the team standings, the girl finished 21st with 13 team points and the boys finished in 25th with 9 team points.
