TROY – The Covington boys basketball team opened the season at Troy Christian on Friday and fell to the Eagles by the score of 61-37.

Early on it appeared as though Covington was going to be a handful for the Eagles as the Buccs built an 11-8 lead. But, after a timeout, Troy Christian made a defensive adjustment and closed out the first period with an 11-0 run to take a 19-11 lead.

To make matters worse for the Buccs, Bryson Hite picked up his third foul and was forced to the bench, which was a huge blow for Covington.

The Buccaneer offensive struggles continued through the second and third periods as they managed just three field goals and three free throws for ten points. Troy Christian was able to push its lead to 44-21 with one quarter to play.

Covington found some offensive success in the final period as it scored 16 points. Britton Miller scored 8 of his team-high 15 points in the final frame, while Gunner Kimmel, Connor Humphrey and Mic Barhorst each dropped in a bucket.

To go along with Miller’s 15 points, Bryson Hite scored 7 points, Connor Humphrey 5, Brogan Angle 4 and 2 points each were dropped in by Tanner Palsgrove, Mic Barhorst and Gunner Kimmel.

The Buccs, 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the TRC, travel to Versailles tomorrow night.
