DEGRAFF – Three games into the season it has become apparent the Lady Buccs are a well balanced basketball team – much like the teams who had success in the past few years.

The Lady Buccs have several players who can put the ball in the hole and on any given night a different player can lead the team in scoring, which makes it difficult on opposing teams as they can’t focus on shutting down one player.

On Tuesday in the TRC opener at Riverside, seven Lady Buccs contributed offensively in 55-23 victory. Plus, the defensive effort was outstanding as the Lady Buccs shut down the Pirates’ offense.

It was apparent from the outset that Covington was going to use balanced scoring as six players contributed to building a 19-8 lead in the opening frame.Gracie Anderson hit a pair of buckets (one a three), Meg Rogers knocked down two shots, while Carlie Besecker and Avery Koffer scored a bucket a piece. Koffer and Maggie Anderson also connected on two free throws each.

The trend continued in the second period as Carlie Besecker scored on two baskets and three free throws, while Gracie Anderson hit a three-pointer and Avery Koffer, Erika Gostomsky, Delaney Murphy and Maggie Anderson all scored on baskets. It led to an 18-2 scoring advantage to push the Covington lead to 37-10 at the break.

Gracie Anderson knocked down three more treys in the second half, while Erika Gostomsky, Meg Rogers, Avery Koffer and Delaney Murphy all scored to cap a 55-23 win.

With the balanced scoring, Covington had one player in double figures as Gracie Anderson scored a game-high 17 points – 15 of those coming on five treys. Carlie Besecker and freshman Avery Koffer score nine points each, while Meg Rogers and Erika Gostomksy had six points a piece. Delaney Murphy and Maggie Anderson both scored four points.

Covington improves to 3-0 on the young season and 1-0 in the TRC. Next up is another road contest at Troy Christian on Saturday at 1:00pm
