VERSAILLES – It has been 14 days since Covington saw the floor in a real game and Saturday the Lady Buccs put forth an historic defensive performance in a 71-6 victory over Miami Valley. The six points allowed set a new school record for the least amount of points allowed in a game.

And it wasn’t accomplished in a classless way as Covington never implemented a full court press throughout the entire contest. The Lady Buccs started the game implementing a half-court trap and then went to a zone defense once the score became lopsided.

The Lady Buccs built a 31-6 lead after one and held Miami Valley scoreless the rest of the game.

Offensively, after building a large lead, Covington coach Shawn Naff demanded his team make five passes before taking a shot. Still, the Lady Buccs were able to push the lead to 59-6 at the break.

From there, Covington made a minimum of ten passes before taking a shot with primarily the entire starting lineup on the bench throughout the majority of the second half. Still, Covington was able to outscore the Rams 12-0 under a running clock over the final two periods.

Nine of the 10 Lady Buccs who saw the floor contributed to the scoring effort thanks to the unselfishness and quality execution of the offensive plays called.

Maggie Anderson led the way with a game-high 20 points, while Carlie Besecker had 13 and Gracie Anderson scored 12.
